:: Priest Draw ::

OverView

Priest Draw consists of severely undercut limestone outcrops in a draw near The Pit. The rock includes slopers, pinches, edges, and lots of pockets on compact rock. The surroundings consist of grassy fields and ponderosa pines offering a relaxed and open view.

The Routes range from vertical crimp and slope problems to severely overhanging pocket pulling. Grades range from V0- to a couple of severely difficult unrated Sharma problems (easily V11 or harder). There are very few highballs and most landings are flat allowing climbers to push limits safely. Lots of beta makes the roof problems easier.

Weather
The Weather is great during the spring and early fall. Summer can be warm unless your climbing in the roofs and summer thundershowers can be troublesome. Winter temperatures can be frigid making the sunny vertical problems more comfortable.

Camping

The Camping is free and unimproved in the National Forest above Oak Creek Canyon. If you see any No Camping signs please honor them. While camping clean up garbage and stay in obvious sites. There are pay campgrounds in Oak Creek Canyon from mid spring through mid fall. Hotels, showers, and food are located in Sedona and Flagstaff.

Directions

Priest Draw is located off of Lake Mary Rd.. Access Lake Mary Rd. from Flagstaff by heading south on Milton Rd. until just before I-17. Take a right, following signs to Lake Mary Rd.. Turn left onto Lake Mary Rd. and follow it for 6.5 miles. Crossing 2 cattle guards. Turn right .5 miles after the second cattle guard. Follow this road .5 miles past houses until the road turns to dirt. Continue on the dirt road for another 2.5 miles until the road turns left and travels up a short, steep hill. Right before the hill is a dirt road on the right, next to a fence. Turn right onto this road and drive to the end of the road. Prior to 2003, you were able to drive right up to the boulders. Since too many knuckle heads went off-roading and tore up the road, you must now park and walk. The walk is less than a mile or two and makes for a nice warm-up.

Ethics
  The Ethics at the draw are as you would expect, no drilling, be nice, don't feed the locals, etc.
